The City of Los Angeles has recently enacted a new Ordinance allowing Movable Tiny Houses (Tiny Houses on Wheels) as an ADU.  If you have a backyard and want to put a Tiny House in it, you can now do that. The City does have a few rules but it’s a fairly easy and quick process. We at Cheeky Monkey Tiny Homes would be happy to help with the process. We offer free delivery to Los Angeles and it’s an easy trip to visit us in Palm Springs.

 

Below is a quick outline of the process with the city of L.A.

  1. Submit a regular building / grading permit application
  2. Submit a site plan
  3. Required Movable Tiny House documentation. We provide all of the documents A-C
  4. PacWest Certification which certifies built to NFPA and ANSI 119.5 codes
  5. Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin
  6. Letter from builder certifying size,
  7. Licensed and registered with the DMV
  8. All Documents go to LADBS and they’ll issue the use of land permit.

This is the portion of the Ordinance that pertains to Movable Tiny Houses:

MOVABLE TINY HOUSE. An enclosed space intended for separate, independent living quarters of one Family as defined in Section 12.03 of this Code and that meets all of the following: (a) Is licensed and registered with the California Department of Motor Vehicles; Meets the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) 119.5 requirements or the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1192 standards, and is certified for ANSI or NFPA compliance; (b) (c) Cannot move under its own power; Is no larger than allowed by California State Law for movement on public highways, and (d) Is no smaller than 150 and no larger than 430 square feet as measured within the exterior faces of the exterior walls.
